The flowers are dioecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but only one sex is to be found on any one plant so both male and female plants must be grown if seed is required) and are pollinated by Insects, hand. The plant is not self-fertile.

Stauntonia hexaphylla is self fertile.

small, bell-shaped flowers, male and female usually in separate axillary racemes on the same plant, followed by edible fruits.

Plants are dioecious but females have borne fruit at times in the absence of a male pollinator.

Stauntonia hexaphylla is typically monoecious.
