Algemene omschrijving

Arum palestinum is een soort van bloeiende, kruidachtige vaste plant uit de familie Araceae, ook bekend als Black Calla, Salomon's Lily, Priest's Hood en Palestine Arum. Deze plant is inheems in Israël / Palestina, Jordanië, Libanon en Syrië, en wordt ook gevonden in het noordwesten van Californië.

Hij wordt 10-25 centimeter hoog. Hij bloeit van maart tot april. Elke plant bloeit slechts één dag, van de ene morgen tot de volgende ochtend. De vrucht bevat zaden die door vogels worden verspreid. De zaden zijn bruin met een harde buitenkant.

De plant verspreidt een sterke geur van rot fruit, waarbij elke soort Arum een andere geur geeft. De geur trekt vliegen aan, die het stuifmeel verspreiden. De bloei van de plant is bijzonder, met onderin vrouwelijke bloemen en bovenin mannelijke bloemen.

In de traditionele geneeskunde wordt de plant gebruikt tegen hoesten met slijm, aambeien, parasitaire wormen in de maag, constipatie en acne.

Arum palaestinum is a species of flowering herbaceous perennial plant in the family Araceae, also known as Black Calla, Solomon's Lily, Priest's Hood and Palestine Arum. This plant is native to Israel/Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, and naturalized in northwestern California.

It grows 10–25 centimetres (0.33–0.82 ft) high. It blooms from March to April. Each plant only blooms for a day, from morning to morning. The fruit contains seeds which are distributed by birds. The seeds are brown with a hard casing.

The plant gives off a strong scent of rotten fruit, with each species of Arum giving a different scent. The scent attracts flies, who distribute the pollen. The plant's flowering is special with the bottom part being feminine flowers and the top part being masculine flowers.

In traditional medicine, the plant is used to deal with coughing with phlegm, hemorrhoids, parasitic worms in the stomach, constipation and acne.
